Joint Pain

Acupuncture can be very effective in treating some types of joint pain.

Joint pain from Osteoarthritis is commonly treated with acupuncture.  Acupuncture can help to improve circulation in the affected joint(s) and surrounding muscles.  Use of massage, moxa, cupping and electro-acupuncture are beneficial in treating this condition.

Some studies have shown that acupuncture can be effective for treating OA of the knee. Read Berman’s study - Acupuncture Relieves Pain and Improves Function in Knee Osteoarthritis - for more information.

Rheumatoid Arthritis is a much more complex condition to treat. Currently, there is no published evidence of the effectiveness of acupuncture for this condition.  Treatment may help to relieve some of the symptoms as a complement to western medical treatment.
