The art of moxibustion or use of moxa, the plant commonly known as mugwort, adds warmth and energy to the body.
Moxibustion is often used with people who have deficient conditions, for example when feeling cold and lacking energy, moxa can help to strengthen the body.
Moxa is also effective at resolving musculoskeletal pain in combination with acupuncture.
There has also been a lot of research done on using moxa to help turn breech babies. The optimal time for this treatment is 34 - 36 weeks of pregnancy and some research suggests about a 60% success rate (Sarah Budd, Acupuncturist & Midwife, Derriford Hospital, Plymouth, 2002).
